InfiniBand is all about system scalability in fabric size, bandwidth, latency, and manageability. As optical networks ramp in speed, InfiniBand's uniquely scalable bandwidth will ramp at least as quickly, making it the ideal interface technology for secure, global, high-speed flows into the foreseeable future. The RDMA mechanism plays into this strength, nulling CPU performance concerns as speeds increase towards 1TBit/s on a single logical flow.
Obsidian's Longbow technology addresses the critical requirement for global and extended range InfiniBand fabrics. The long-haul InfiniBand Wide-Area-Network is able to efficiently move large data for most high-performance needs. Global WAN links, Metro networks, and Campus networks are now all within the reach of a native InfiniBand fabric. Physical signaling limitations are addressed, bandwidth scales as needed, and manageability issues are handled. The opportunities afforded by all-InfiniBand global and local networks are within reach.
